OUR HISTORY

ESTABLISHED IN 2002

2002

Formerly known as "Nhu Thanh Lion Dance Team" was established

2008

Developed into "Hok San" style of lion dancing & drums

2012

Head Coach Hung Nguyen led the team in winning their first 1st place trophy at the 2012 New England Lion Dance Competition

2014

The team began to practice on benches

Won 1st place in the 2014 New England Lion Dance Competition

2015

Head Coach Hung Nguyen stepped down as head coach to transition to Owner and President appointing Hung Ngo as the next Head Coach

Hung Nguyen appoints Hieu Nguyen as General Manager of the Imperial Lion Dance Team

The team began to bring their skills to high poles (jongs)

Won 1st in the 2015 New England Lion Dance Competition

Rebranded into "The Imperial Lion Dance Team"

2016

Won 1st place in the 2016 New England Lion Dance Competition

Imperial competes in their 1st out of state competition at the Colorado Lion Dance Competition
6th Place (Deserved Score: 8.71, Final Score: 7.71)

2017

GM Hung Nguyen appointed Hung Ngo as the new head coach of the team

Performed High Poles for MGM National Harbor Casino's Lunar New Year Celebration in Washington D.C.

2018

Performed High Poles for MGM National Harbor Casino's Lunar New Year Celebration in Washington D.C

GM Hung Nguyen stepped down as General Manager and appointed Hieu Nguyen as the new General Manager of the team

Imperial competes in the 1st USDLDF National Lion Dance Traditional Championship
14th place (Deserved Score: 9.06, Final Score: 7.56)

2019

Performed High Poles for MGM National Harbor Casino's Lunar New Year Celebration in Washington D.C

GM Hieu Nguyen steps down as General Manager and appoints Thien Hoang as the new General Manager

Imperial sends 2 teams to compete in the 2nd USDLDF National Lion Dance Traditional Championship
Team A, 1st Place (Deserved Score: 9.03, Final Score: 9.03)
Team B, 8th Place (Deserved Score: 8.91, Final Score: 8.91)

2020

Imperial completes the Lunar New Year season and then suspends all operations due to the Coronavirus outbreak

2021

Imperial reinstates operations and members as of August

Head Coach Hung Ngo steps down as Head Coach after 7 years of service

Owner and President Hung Nguyen appoints James Nguyen as the next Head Coach

2022

Imperial performs for MGM for the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic

Coaches Leon Ly and Peter Le obtain certification for USDLDF Lion Dance Judging

GM Thien Hoang steps down as General Manager after three years of service

Owner and President Hung Nguyen appoints James Nguyen as the next General Mananger
